INTERPRETATION & TRANSLATION TRAINING
Labour Market Bridging For Volunteers: Interpretation and Translation is a three-in-one comprehensive training package offered twice a year that includes Community Interpreter training, CILISAT certification, and Translation Training and is delivered in collaboration with Cultural Services for our Communities (CISOC) and with financial support of the Ministry of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)
This training is a full-time 20-week employment training program that supports bilingual professional women. Participants build skills to become community interpreters as well as translators and gain knowledge and skills to function as freelance interpreters and translators in a self-employed or contractual environment.
PROGRAM DETAILS
- Interpreter preparation and training by a qualified Instructor
- Presentations from industry experts in education, legal service, health services, family services and private industry
- Community Interpreter Language and Interpreting Skills Assessment Tool (CILISAT) preparation classes to increase employability
- Preparation for Interpretation and Translation Clinics at CIWA and community organization
ELIGIBLE CLIENTS
- Must be a Canadian Permanent Resident
- Minimum CLB 7 in all strands
- Provide proof of proficiency in a second language
- Able to commit to a 5 month full-time training program followed by interpretation and translation assignments
- Demonstrate interest in and commitment to becoming a certified Community Interpreter
