ABOUT LANGUAGE VENTURE
Language Venture is CIWA’s flagship social enterprise launched in October 2019, it is comprised primarily of immigrant women professionals with a high level of training and skills in interpretation, translation, and proofreading.
The enterprise emerged from CIWA’s longstanding program Labour Market Bridging for Volunteers: Interpretation and Translation, delivered in collaboration with Cultural Services for our Communities (CISOC) and with the financial support of the Ministry of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Our mission is to serve as a critical communication link across linguistically and culturally diverse communities in Canada, since its inception in 2012, LMB has graduated 295 professional interpreters and translators and continues to train multilingual professionals who–as part of the Language Venture freelancers’ pool–effectively support the cross-cultural dialogue in the community.
We provide interpretation and certified translation services that are convenient, affordable, and of exceptional quality. We ensure the accuracy of translation and timely delivery of translated documents to clients.
TOP SERVICES
IN-PERSON OR ON-SITE (OSI) INTERPRETING
We align you with the right interpreter to provide on-site face-to-face interpretation in which the interpreter attends the appointment in person
OVER THE PHONE (OPI) INTERPRETING
Location is not a barrier for us, we can provide interpretation services via telephone or audio conference calls, connecting an interpreter with individuals who communicate in different languages
VIDEO REMOTE INTERPRETING (VRI)
We employ videoconferencing technology (Zoom, MS Teams, etc) to link individuals who speak different languages to a remote interpreter, enabling virtual and real-time language translation services.
TRANSLATION & PROOFREADING
Our freelance translators are in-house trained and highly competitive in the translation market.
They are well-versed in translation techniques, advanced editing, revision, and proofreading as well as hands-on experience with cutting-edge tech productivity tools and translation software (CAT Tools)
TRAINING
Labour Market Bridging for Volunteers: Interpretation and Translation provides training is a full-time 20-week employment training program that supports bilingual professional women
Our 16-hour online course is exactly what will help you prepare for the two CILISAT components—dialogue interpreting and sight translation and thus improve your chances of obtaining your CILISAT certificate!
CILISAT TESTING CENTRE
CISOC manages and administers CILISAT in 50 different languages throughout Canada.
As a licensed CILISAT Testing Centre, we administer CILISAT by appointment at the Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association (CIWA). You can take the test in person at our main office – 138 4 Ave SE, Calgary AB, or online via Zoom.
